Mumbai Indians picked up WPL trophy

Mumbai Indians have won the first season of the Women's Premier League by defeating Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets. The game played this Sunday at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium, MI won it by scoring 134 runs in 19.3 overs at the loss of three wickets.

Although, Delhi's captain Meg Lanning won the toss and decided to bat first, her team Delhi Capitals scored 131 runs with the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs.

It seemed as if today was not DC's day. The team had a very bad start, where Shefali Verma was dismissed for 11 runs in the second over itself, while after two balls Alice Capsey was also seen returning to the pavilion without opening her account. Both Shefali's and Alice's wickets were taken by Issy Wong. Beside that Issy also took Jemimiah's wicket too, who scored only 9 runs in 8 balls.

The experienced pair of Captain Lanning and Marizanne Kapp somehow shared a partnership of 38 runs which proved to be very important for the team, but after scoring 18 runs, Kapp lost her wicket at the hands of Amelia Kerr. During this, Delhi's score was 73 runs. After this, Delhi lost 5 wickets while scoring the next six runs. Somehow, by the 16th over, Delhi's score was 79 for the loss of nine wickets.

There was a time during the game when it seemed as if the Delhi team would not be able to score even 100 runs. But Shikha Pandey and Radha Yadav shared an unbeaten 52-run partnership for the last wicket to somehow take the team to 131 runs.

As for MI, the Player of the Match Natalie Sciver-Brunt proved to be today's hero. She scored an unbeaten 60 off 55 balls to help Mumbai secure today's win. For she, supported Amelia and shared an unbeaten 39 off 20 balls. Before this, Natalie shared a 72-run partnership with Harmanpreet for the third wicket.

While MI bowlers, Issy Wong and Hayley Matthews took 3 wickets each. Although Wong gave 42 runs in her 4 overs, while Hayley gave two maiden overs and 5 runs only. Apart from this Amelia also took two very important wickets.

For the Mumbai franchise these is their sixth trophy so far. Their men's team has become champion five times in IPL, while it is the first for the women's team.
